The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark by Carl Sagan
| This is a great book and an easy read. All jr/high schools should have a class devoted to reading this book for a semester. |
Contact by Carl Sagan
| Fiction book about first contact with extra-terrestrials. Well researched and reality-based, it doesn't just sound "sciency" (dilithum crystals, photon torpedoes, etc.) it's based in real science and a real project called SETI. The movie is excellent also. |

Affluenza : The All-Consuming Epidemic
| What you buy vs. what you need, and why you do it. |
Freakonomics : A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything
| This book is just generally interesting. How many teachers cheat to bring up test scores? What actually stops crime vs. what we're told. Interesting, interesting, interesting. |

Dune by Frank Herbert
| My favorite fiction book. So well written, I can't stoop to regular fiction anymore. I can't vouch for the sequels, but the original has no equal. |

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
| Excellent book. High-quality writing. Not quite Dune-caliber, but very good. Again, sequels not as good, but readable. |
